ChatGPT Plugins for Intelligence Analysis
There are more than 300 plugins. Here are the ones worth exploring.
I’ve been playing with ChatGPT plugins quite a bit the past few weeks and wanted to share some of my findings with you.
The tl;dr: none of these plugins in their current form substantially move the needle on productivity or capability for intelligence analysis. They’re glitchy. They’re don’t have user guides. Some don’t seem to work at all or take way too long to process information. Overall, I am underwhelmed with the current output.
That said - we are in early days with ChatGPT+ and the plugin ecosystem, and I imagine in due course the capabilities of these applications will mature. Plugins today represent the 1.0 version of what’s to come and this initial glimpse at their potential is what excites me the most.
Here is a spreadsheet of all plugins that seem like they have the potential to help intelligence analysts in some way. I sifted through more than 300 available titles to pick ones whose brief description suggested it could assist in collecting OSINT, synthesizing information, or provide services to augment finished production.
A few notes on the list:
I attempted to organize the plugins by their function so you can easily find a tool to fit your need.
There are also columns to indicate where each tool fits best in the intelligence cycle, and whether or not I’ve personally tried them.
I’ve added a few unfiltered comments about the ones I have tried.
I’ve found that in order to get the best sense of what a plugin is capable of, it helps to prompt ChatGPT to tell you more about it. “Hey [plugin name], what can you do?” usually works best.
This spreadsheet will be a living doc and is open to comment. I will update it with more reviews as I continue to explore and as new plugins drop.
My advice? Dive in, play around, make up some test cases, and see how these might be helpful to your team now or in the future. We’re still at the beginning of the innovation curve with generative AI tools like this one, and there’s so much potential to uncover.
Have fun!
